History

Babes XVII - Final Spirit GameMore than 2 Decades of Babes ‘N Hats. Babes ‘N Hats 1 took place at Trafalgar Park in 1993. So many years, So many T-Shirts (around 5000 of them), So many Heckles. Where did the time go?

Babes ‘N Hats was, as far as we can tell, the first tournament in North America that was designated for a 4/3 Gender Switch. The VUL made the switch from 6/1 to 5/2 in 1991, and for the first Babes ‘N Hats Tournament in 1993 the league was just starting to consider a change to that format. In 1994 the VUL offered both 5/2 and 4/3 play in the Summer, and in the Fall of 1994 the VUL was fully 4/3.

Babes has continued to attempt to achieve equality in the gender balance, from time to time being able to mandate an alternating 4/3, 3/4 format for each point.

During the past two decades, the event has continued because of the people who come out time and time again. See our attendance record for a list of who has played since such records were tracked (1998).

There are many current Ultimate players whose first tournament experience or even first Ultimate experience was at Babes. The tournament organizers are very proud of the fact that we have been able to offer up this event for players of all skill levels, and even when the weather is less than perfect, everyone has a great time.

In 2013 Babes has partnered with the Vancouver Ultimate League to be the official end of Summer League tournament. This doesn’t mean that only VUL players can attend, we are open to all as we normally are, but we certainly want as many VUL players as possible to sign up and celebrate the end of another great Summer Season.
